You LOVE to Recycle. You LOVE your shoes.
Now get ready to LOVE RECYCLING YOUR SHOES. Support a great cause!
The Office of Sustainability, in partnership with Eco-Reps, is doing a used athletic shoe donation drive from February 15 to March 1. February isn’t just a time for love <3. It’s also the start of Recyclemania, a national competition for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities across campus.
If you have used athletic shoes, bring them in and support a great cause! All shoes will be donated to the MORE Foundation (Modular Organic Regenerative Environments), a Delaware-based organization that fights poverty, teaches farming, and sells shoes. How does this work? With every pair of gently used athletic shoes, MORE is able to plant one ton of carbon grounding trees and train poor farmers in sustainable agroforestry. The used athletics shoes will be sold in major metro areas around the world to vendors who in turn create jobs and help improve the quality of life in cities. This system supports environmental and social justice by using the proceeds to provide training and tools to the poorest rural farmers.
Too many shoes sit in dark closets, forgotten and never worn, and then end up in landfills. Reusing these shoes further promotes global efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Stop by any of our collection boxes by March 15 and be rid of your used athletic shoes:
