RecycleMania kicks-off at Alumni Memorial Building!

You are here

Lehigh kicked-off the 2015 RecycleMania competition with a reception in the Alumni Memorial Building on Wednesday, February 4th. Staff were treated to doughnuts and coffee while learning more about the competition, recycling at Lehigh, and how they can decrease waste in their building. The Office of Sustainability brought a recycling trivia game and each staff had an opportunity to sign the Recycling Pledge. This building has been extremely supportive of Lehigh's recycling initiatives and recently went through a recycling renovation of the building: eight new waste stations were distributed throughout the building and more than 30 desk side recycling bins were added to offices. With more recycling bins in the office, we anticipate an increase in recycling rates in the building.

The reception brought out many great questions from staff and we had a lively discussion about recycling at Lehigh. Did you know that you can recycle soup and juice cartons at Lehigh? However, hot coffee cups and napkins must go in the trash. If you have questions about recycling at Lehigh, check out our recycling page https://sustainability.lehigh.edu/recycling

Many staff in the building also took the "Mini-Bin Challenge", giving up their large trash bin in exchange for a small mini trash bin. These 'waste-watchers' are committed to reducing their waste and developing a stronger awareness of the amount of waste they generate on a weekly basis. If you're interested in taking on the challenge, email recycling@lehigh.edu for more details!
