This Climate Action Strategy serves as a roadmap for how Lehigh can leverage its strengths to rapidly reduce GHG emissions and achieve net carbon neutrality by 2040. An important component of the strategy development process was determining a set of principles to guide decision-making. Lehigh’s Climate Action Strategy is rooted in the following principles: clean, just and equitable, innovative, educational and science-based, reliable and resilient, affordable, and leverages partnerships (see Figure 7). Established by Lehigh’s campus community, these principles were refined by the working and advisory groups. One key strength of these principles is their alignment with many of the principles in the City of Bethlehem’s Climate Action Plan (2021): equitability, prosperity, resiliency, healthfulness, inclusivity and science-based.
