Earlier this month, the International Center for Academic and Professional English earned a bronze certification within the Office of Sustainability’s Sustainable Office Program. They are the 28th office to be certified since the program began in spring of 2015.
The Sustainable Office Program is a voluntary, self-guided program designed for staff and faculty to take the lead on promoting environmental practices in the workplace. The ICAPE office, which is housed in Maginnes, earned a bronze level certification by completing 54 actions within categories including ‘Participation & Engagement,’ Climate & Energy,’ Food & Dining,’ ‘Purchasing,’ Community Building & Social Equity,’ ‘Transportation,’ ‘Waste,’ ‘Water,’ and ‘Events & Meetings.’ Many of these actions are long term habits that encourage the office to continue to work toward Lehigh’s sustainability goals.
Dan Haney, ICAPE’s Sustainable Office Program representative, helped organize the office’s participation in the program. When asked why his office wanted to be certified, he said, “The Sustainable Office Program is an important contribution to Lehigh's Path to Prominence. Today's environmental issues can be so pervasive and dire that it becomes easy to assume helplessness. The Sustainable Office Program helps us at ICAPE make conscious efforts each day to serve as better stewards to the environment.”
As the International Center for Academic and Professional English celebrates their achievement, we hope they will share this good news with their colleagues and encourage other officers to join the program! If your office is interested in participating, please fill out a registration form, and a Sustainable Office team member will reach out to discuss the program with your office.
