20% Real Food by 2020

You are here

What exactly is Lehigh doing to push for more sustainably sourced food on campus? Lehigh is one of just three colleges and universities in Pennsylvania—and 83 nationally—to sign the Real Food pledge. This is a pledge to have 20 percent of on-campus food be real (local, ecological, fair and humane) by 2020. President Simon officially signed the Real Food Campus Commitment on November 9th at a signing ceremony and luncheon at Rathbone. The event was a clear message to the campus community of Lehigh’s commitment to support a healthy food system, environmental stewardship, human rights and campus engagement.

The family style, real food event was a collaborative effort between Lehigh Dining Services and the Office of Sustainability.  President John Simon, Pat Johnson, Vice President of Finance & Administration, David Joseph, Executive Director of Student Auxiliary Services, the real food challenge committee, members of the Lehigh Sustainability Council, the real food challenge student team, and staff from Lehigh Dining were all in attendance at the event.

Support Lehigh’s push for more sustainably sourced foods, and look out for more real food options in the dining halls!  It’s a big step for Lehigh, and a win-win for all members of the Lehigh campus community!
