ICYMI: Lehigh Named Case Study Award Winner for Campus Race to Zero Waste 2020

Lehigh University was named the 2021 Waste Minimization Case Study Winner in the nationwide Campus Race to Zero Waste competition. The case study focused on the expansion of the Eco Container Program, which now automatically enrolls students with meal plans to receive a reusable clamshell take-out container. By the end of the Spring 2021 semester, there was a 72% reduction in the use of, and waste from, disposable clamshell take-out containers on campus. View the case study and learn more.

Energy Conservation Month

Thoughout November, we challenge members of the Lehigh community to be conscious of their energy consumption behaviors, commit to adopting new energy-saving behaviors, and engage with peers and coworkers on the topic of energy conservation. This challenge is designed to reduce university-wide energy consumption leading into the cold dark winter months when lighting and heating is heavily used. Take the Energy Pledge today! Study Highlights Waste Reduction Opportunities

In late October, the Office of Sustainability and Eco-Rep Leadership Program conducted a Waste Characterization Study. The team audited five buildings across campus and sorted 870 pounds of trash and recycling. The data collected gives a snapshot of Lehigh's waste streams and highlights opportunities for reduction efforts. The study was the first step towards achieving a long-term zero-waste goal in Lehigh's Sustainability Strategic Plan 2030. Learn more about Lehigh's waste goals.
