The Office of Sustainability and The Lehigh Store are excited to announce the results of last year’s EcoCoin Program and the 2023 EcoCoin Fund Recipients. In its inaugural year, the EcoCoin Program raised $657.75 for two Lehigh student organizations and avoided 1,155 single-use plastic bags. The 2022 student organization recipients, The Outing Club and Eco-Reps Leadership Program, received $327.70 and $330.05 respectively of the total funds raised.
Announcing the 2023 EcoCoin Recipients
The recipients for the 2023 EcoCoin Program were nominated by the student body and then voted for by members of the Undergraduate Student Senate and Lehigh Sustainability Council in the Fall 22’ semester. The selected 2023 EcoCoin Program Fund Recipients are Lehigh University's United Nations Youth Representative Program and Lehigh's Community Growers Club.
Founded in 2008, Lehigh University’s United Nations Youth Representative Program matches UN-accredited Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) with high-achieving undergraduate and graduate students who serve as NGOs’ voices at the United Nations.
The Community Growers club is a student-led organization seeking to increase sustainability across campus and in the broader Southside Bethlehem community. They achieve this by educating both Lehigh students and community members through outreach events.
About the EcoCoin Program
Tied directly to Lehigh’s Sustainability Strategic Plan 2030, the EcoCoin Program seeks to reduce single-use plastic bags on campus while directly supporting selected student organizations. Each time a Lehigh Store customer says “no” to a single-use plastic bag, they receive an EcoCoin which they can use to support the selected student organizations. By incentivizing saying “no” to single-use plastic bags, the EcoCoin program is moving the Lehigh Community towards the long-term goal of eliminating single-use plastic bags at The Lehigh Store by 2025.
This year, double your sustainable impact on campus by saying “no” to single-use plastic bags at The Lehigh Store, supporting Lehigh University's United Nations Youth Representative Program and Lehigh's Community Growers Club.
